FAQ — Cycling in Serre Chevalier

The Galibier (2,642 m) is the most iconic — panoramic views over the Écrins and its glaciers, guaranteed Tour de France atmosphere. But the Granon (2,413 m) is our personal favourite: less frequented, wilder, with a 360° view over the valley. From our Serre Chevalier villages, both are accessible directly by bike.

Yes — that is precisely the key advantage of Chalet Mont Milo in Pramorel. The Galibier, Granon, Izoard, Lautaret and Montgenèvre are all accessible directly by bike from the chalet, with no car and no shuttle. Complete freedom to plan your rides at your own pace.

The Galibier is rated hors catégorie at the Tour de France — it requires an intermediate to advanced level. From the Lautaret, the final ascent (8 km, 580 m elevation gain) is manageable for a trained cyclist. For a beginner, the Lautaret (18 km from the chalet, 750 m elevation gain) is an excellent first step before tackling the Galibier.

From June to September — the passes are open, the roads clear and the weather favourable with 300 days of sunshine a year. July is the ideal period for the Tournée des Grands Cols with roads reserved for cyclists. Avoid August if you dislike crowds — June and September offer perfect conditions with near-empty roads.

Yes — Chalet Mont Milo holds the Accueil Vélo certification from France Vélo Tourisme. It has a locked bike room, a cleaning and repair kit, a washing machine for your cycling kit and a 22 kW e-bike charging station. Everything is in place for a perfect cycling stay from the moment you arrive.
