Col du Granon — 2,413 m

The most mythical stage of the modern Tour de France, this is where Vingegaard took the yellow jersey from Pogacar in 2022. Accessible directly from Chantemerle, 5 minutes from the chalet.

La Casse Déserte, a wild and lunar landscape, is one of the most photographed backdrops in Tour history. From Briançon, just 5 minutes from the chalet, a truly iconic route.

A gentle, steady climb from the chalet, ideal for warming up before tackling the Galibier. Alpine botanical garden at the summit and panoramic views over the Écrins.
Col de Montgenèvre — 1,850 m

The most accessible climb from the chalet, a 2-hour return ride that opens the door to Italy. The oldest road pass in the Alps, used since Roman times.

Every summer, the Izoard, Granon and Galibier passes are closed to motor traffic on several mornings, reserved exclusively for cyclists from 9am to 12pm. Free, no registration required, with refreshments at the summit. From the chalet, you ride directly to the start points.
From Serre Chevalier Valley, several major marked routes are accessible directly by bike. From a single col ride to a multi-day tour, there is something for every type of cyclist.
La Durance à Vélo
Briançon → Sisteron · 170 km · 100% signposted
The great Durance cycling route connects Briançon to Sisteron along the river, gorges, the Lac de Serre-Ponçon, hilltop villages and the first scents of Provence. From the chalet, you join the start of this route directly.
Route des Grandes Alpes

One of the finest stages of the Route des Grandes Alpes, Valloire, the Galibier, the Lautaret and the descent to Briançon. From the chalet, you are right on this legendary route.

Our tip

From Briançon, mountain bike trails start directly at the bottom of the chalet. The Serre Chevalier Bike Park, accessible by gondola from Chantemerle just 5 minutes away, opens up descents for all levels, from family green runs to expert black trails. Hiking trails also start right from the chalet's doorstep.
New for summer 2026
The Grand Serre Che, a brand new route connecting Briançon to the summit of the Prorel, then continuing to Monêtier via exceptional mountain passes. Available on standard or e-mountain bike, open from 20 June to 30 August 2026.
Good to know
E-bike charging stations have been installed at the summits of several passes by the Briançon Area Community, you can recharge your battery directly at the Lautaret and the Galibier.
The Galibier (2,642 m) is the most iconic — panoramic views over the Écrins and its glaciers, guaranteed Tour de France atmosphere. But the Granon (2,413 m) is our personal favourite: less frequented, wilder, with a 360° view over the valley. From our Serre Chevalier villages, both are accessible directly by bike.
Yes — that is precisely the key advantage of Chalet Mont Milo in Pramorel. The Galibier, Granon, Izoard, Lautaret and Montgenèvre are all accessible directly by bike from the chalet, with no car and no shuttle. Complete freedom to plan your rides at your own pace.
The Galibier is rated hors catégorie at the Tour de France — it requires an intermediate to advanced level. From the Lautaret, the final ascent (8 km, 580 m elevation gain) is manageable for a trained cyclist. For a beginner, the Lautaret (18 km from the chalet, 750 m elevation gain) is an excellent first step before tackling the Galibier.
From June to September — the passes are open, the roads clear and the weather favourable with 300 days of sunshine a year. July is the ideal period for the Tournée des Grands Cols with roads reserved for cyclists. Avoid August if you dislike crowds — June and September offer perfect conditions with near-empty roads.
Yes — Chalet Mont Milo holds the Accueil Vélo certification from France Vélo Tourisme. It has a locked bike room, a cleaning and repair kit, a washing machine for your cycling kit and a 22 kW e-bike charging station. Everything is in place for a perfect cycling stay from the moment you arrive.
